Quantum Yoga

If you are not into having a slow yoga session and want to have a yoga session where your the heart rate gets going and you are breaking a sweat then quantum yoga could be something for you.

The need for speedy yoga sessions suggests you are a ‘pitta’ type. The 6,000 year old Indian Ayurveda system, which says every person, is one of three body types (also known as ‘dosha’).

Vata (which means air) means you are likely to have a slender body frame and are more likely to suffer from anxiety. Pitta (which means fire) body types tend to have a fair amount of stamina but a fiery temperament, while Kapha (which means water) body types tend to have heavier body frames and can be a bit lazy.

These different body types mean we all have different requirements from yoga classes. If you are classified as ‘fire’ then you need to use up more of your energy but you also need to find your calm. This is the basis of quantum yoga. It is basically all about finding a dynamic yoga sequence that relates to each person own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs.

There is a yoga sequence for each body type. The ‘heroes’ sequence is for Pitta types. Pitta is a challenging yoga session but it never hypes up the energy, so while it is physically demanding, the real challenge is to pay attention to the more subtle aspects of the yoga practice, such as full deep inhalations and smooth transitions. For Vata body types the aim of the yoga class is to still thoughts and worries, while Kaphas body types work on grace and lightness.

Hip Hop Yoga

Hip hop yoga is simply a union of yoga and the beat of hip hop music. To the beat of Jay-Z, Eminem or Alicia Keys the music motivates the yoga class and the beat helps the yoga class to stay in time. Practicing Hip hop yoga keep your mind to stay in the yoga studio.

Acroyoga

Acroyoga which began in California combines yoga with acrobatics, Thai massage and partner yoga. A typical acroyoga class will involve a brief warm up consisting of sun salutations and lots of upside-down moves such as headstands and handstands.
